The Marais in Paris has a great many pita places, all of which have equally long queues. There is, however (in my opinion), only one truly worth waiting in line for and that is Miznon. Middle-Eastern cuisine is famous for its street food and, admittedly, nothing beats some falafel or a good sabich. Miznon had the – absolute genius – idea of combining the traditional pita with a great French classic... the bœuf bourguignon! And so the concept of "bœuf bourguignon in-a-pita" aka "the essence of bourguignon" was born.
The story of Miznon starts in Tel-Aviv and they opened their first location abroad in Paris in 2013. The founder’s grandfather was actually a vegan, which probably explains the many veggie-friendly options. I personally discovered Miznon whilst still living in Brussels. I took my boyfriend there one weekend, and I think that that day I changed his life. He was lucky enough to be working in the area at the time and Miznon soon became his go-to lunch spot.
Miznon have two other locations and the menu may vary slightly from the one to the other, but whichever one you choose to go to, they should have the classics: "steak & egg", lamb kebab, stuffed cabbage, "chicken salad", as well as – two other favourites of mine – the spicy fish and "golden ratatouille", all served with sauces. If you are feeling extra hungry, share the roasted cauliflower (served whole!) with your travel companions!
