This is my local soul/funk/hip-hop specialist. Francesco runs what he’s dubbed his ‘music drugstore’ from a unit situated just below from where I live. This for some neighbours is great, but for others, it really grates on their nerves. Why? Well, to celebrate record store day each year, Francesco at his Music Avenue Paris puts on live funk, soul and hip hop performers, flooding the neighbourhood with viiiiiibes.
So, why the music drugstore concept? Well, in addition to picking up the best in jazz, funk, and soul back catalogus (but also choice recent releases - Music Avenue is specialist in US and UK imports) it's also the one-stop-shop for turntablists, hence self-proclaimed as the neighbourhood's music drugstore. There's new gear and occasional vintage finds, too.
So, one time when the DJ mixer at home blew, it was a quick trip to Music Avenue Paris to pick up a new Allen & Heath Xone, and it’s also where I’ve bought new guitar strings. The place has been going since 1995, making 2020 a 25th anniversary. Cel-err-bra-tion!! A great addition to the neighbourhood and just doors away from Nomade Cafe (Check article on Nomade Cafe).
