Paris may not be famous for its beer, but this is changing. It now boasts several new craft beer breweries, both in the city and the suburbs, including the Paname Brewing Company (which also operates as a bar/restaurant) in an enviable location next to a canal.
The style is very 'New York' (brick walls, long bar, high ceilings), the food is upmarket pub fare (steaks, pizzas), the beers are good (and relatively cheap), and the terrace at the front is definitely a major bonus. It's enough to make you forget wine altogether.
This part of Paris is somewhere I regularly spend time. There are two art house cinemas on either side of the canal, and great walks - or cycle rides - up to the Parc de la Villette and beyond. Indeed, if you've got time to spare, I thoroughly recommend the ride alongside the canal all the way to Meaux (around 50km away), the home of brie cheese!
