You could easily walk straight past the small Spontan bar on Baskov Lane without noticing it, but it’s worth seeking out. The small bar has a couple of tables and a range of beer on tap. Their specialty is sour beer – Berliner Weisse, gose, cider and the like, both in bottle and on tap.
The staff are knowledgable and helpful, they’re also familiar faces – most have worked in the city’s other well-known beer establishments such as Beer Geek and Fillin Good to name but a few. It also attracts the real cognoscenti of the craft beer scene – expect to bump into a familiar face if you come here on a regular basis, or have been to any of the other establishments nearby such as the legendary RedRum or Pivnaya Dieta. Local legend has it that the president himself was born somewhere on the street, although precisely where remains a closely guarded secret… perhaps after a few beers in the early hours you’ll start to understand where, or not really care.
