One of the first restaurants in Sofia opened on this exact same spot back in the 90s. Its name was "33 chairs". Yes, the exact number of chairs inside the place. And yes, it's still the number, hence the 33 in the name of the new restaurant. However, they also added a reference to a London play, known as a 'theatre adventure with food and music'.
Adventure is the right word. An international one. It's pretty hard to describe the menu of 33 Gastronauts, you just have to taste it. It's a mixture of a number of influences, including a lot of vegan choices. You might travel to the Middle East with hummus as a starter or try a typical sushi side dish such as the edamame beans. For a main course, you might visit Italy for a pasta or drop by the French Provence for some calamari with tomato sauce.
They also have delicious burgers. However, they recently told me they toned down their burger selection because they want to be known for the variety of their menu and not just burgers. Still, they've left some of the best options. If that's not enough for you, you can always try Boom! Burgers & Steaks (check the Boom article).
If you have any space left for dessert, there's no way to make a mistake with any of the 5 options.
P.S. Make sure you make a reservation, a table outside on a nice warm evening is great. Also, be patient when the place is full.
