As a young girl, reading Nick Hornby's book High Fidelity, I always dreamt of hanging around in a record store that held basically every record in print. Somewhere you could walk in, browse the racks and maybe listen to the bickering of the eccentric staff. Well, Pet Sounds records shop on Skånegatan comes pretty close to this fantasy.
The store opened in 1979 and stocks a wide range of albums personally selected by the great and dedicated staff. At Pet Sounds, you'll find both new and second-hand vinyl as well as CDs, DVDs, Bluerays, books, magazines and posters. They also have a marketplace on Discogs, where you can find some vinyl- and CD rarities and collector's items. And yes, they ship world-wide.
I love this place because you can walk in here and whether you're looking for a specific record or just want to see if you can find a new idol stacked in the vinyl racks, you'll exit the store with a new found music gem in your own Pet Sounds-tote.
The staff is friendly and very helpful. They're all music buffs and will guide you through the new releases or help you track down old favorites. So, during your stroll along Söder I most definitely recommend you stop by Pet Sounds. If not to shop, then just to stop and listen for a while.
