Don't rush past Schnelli Park — there’s more than meets the eye.
This green space lies right on the edge of Tallinn’s Old Town, and with just a few steps, you can find yourself on a medieval cobblestone street. But take your time — this park is worth a closer look.
I recommend grabbing a takeaway coffee from Kiosk 1 (you'll find it in my list!) and strolling slowly through the park. If you come in the evening, around 6 PM, head toward the pond near the Kiosk 1 — that's when the bats come out. They zip through the air just above the water, catching insects on the wing. Their home? The bastion wall of the Old Town.
Further along, you’ll likely spot a group of mallards. Look closely — can you see fluffy ducklings, or have they already grown? A bit later, you’ll hear the loud calls of black-headed gulls, and at the far end of the park, there’s a large group of pigeons — all kinds of colors, and surprisingly unafraid of people.
If you take the upper trail, you’ll be greeted by songbirds — like goldfinches and flycatchers. I often bring beginner birdwatchers here for their first tour. It’s the perfect place to start noticing the wild lives that share our city.
