What does 'hole in the wall mean'? A hole in the wall is typically a small, local, not fancy at all, place. You usually won't find tables or seats in this kind of places, so you will take your order and sit somewhere in the street -those are the best places to feel the vibes of the street or the neighborhood.
In the Old Jaffa Port you'll find a great hole in the wall place which servers fried fish and seafood with chips. The place is owned by a fisherman family - they have a fish store right next to the food stand, so the fish are fresh from the sea and delicious. Eating in Fishermen's Store is the best way to feel the old port atmosphere.
The ancient port of the city of Jaffa, out of which modern day Tel Aviv has grown, is multicultural, colorful and full of life. I highly recommend grabbing some fish and chips with a cold beer, sitting by the marina and watching the fishing boats come back from the sea with goods from the Mediterranean.
