There's never been a better reason to flock down to the Canary District. The Aviary Brewpub has become one of my new favourite places to go for a good beer and an even better fried chicken sandwich. This is the new home of the Longslice Brewery - their on-site brewing facility is set to be up and running by March. The space itself is beautiful - with floor to ceiling windows, long wooden tables, and many TVs for watching the game du jour. The Aviary has a special for most days of the week - and you really can't beat getting their signature burger, a beer, and fries all for $9.99.
Or take advantage of their game night beer special - whenever the Raptors or Leafs are playing! As for their food - they have a wide variety of snacks to share such as tater tots or Cracker Jacques (caramel corn and peanuts), as well as salads, sandwiches, wings and a full-on brunch menu. I've heard rumours about how good their Pastrami Dry-Rub wings are - but so far my favourite thing to order is the Fried Chicken Sandwich - perfectly crispy and complimented with a pickled slaw. This is paired perfectly with my favourite Longslice brew - the Aloha Friday, a hibiscus pale ale. This is a great brewery off in its own corner of the city - but close enough to let you explore Queen Street East after you get your fill. I can't wait to head back in the summer and enjoy their large outdoor patio!
