Craft beer stores have been popping up all over the world, but not all of them outlast the hype. De Bierverteller is, in my opinion, one of the best and most charming stores in Utrecht, located on the oldest shopping street in the city, the Twijnstraat.
The shop was originally founded by Tomas, who used to work as a bartender at the famous Belgian beer café België a few hundred meters north along the Oudegacht. Tomas used to combine his passion for theatre, storytelling and beer in his signature style workshops, tastings and even beer documentaries as the Bierverteller ("beer storyteller"), which eventually led him to open a store under the same name.
Unfortunately, Tomas died of cancer not long after the store opened, but luckily, one of the employees took over and ran the store with the same passion up until this day. De Bierverteller has a wide selection of almost all beer styles you can think of, including lots of beers from the many local breweries Utrecht has to offer. Looking for a beer to go to drink in the park on a hot summer day? Part of their selection is chilled. Looking for a fun activity? They often organize tastings and workshops in Tomas' style.
