Hidden behind the boulder hall and some vague warehouses, there is (in my opinion) the best craft beer brewery of Utrecht and maybe even of The Netherlands.
Now, I know that European cities have been flooded by craft beer breweries and that, nowadays, each small town seems to have their own local brewery. Which is great, of course! But de Kromme Haring (the crooked herring) is something different. Their beers are unique because they are all just bursting with flavour. They also have fish-themed names for no real reason, which is a bonus. My main recommendations: Fugu, Dusky, Inktvis and Perles Du Homard (in that order).
Even if you are not the world’s biggest beer lover, this place is worth a visit. The cozy bar, where you can look straight into the brewery, or sunny biergarten are great places to chill every season. Concerts, screenings or other events are hosted regularly, just check the website. And they also serve wines and ciders, and coffee ;)
To get there, you have to pass through an industrial area. The brewery is in the back of this area, and you can’t see it from the street. Just follow the signs to Vechtclub XL or Kromme Haring until you see the brewery!
