Smoke and Barrel in Adams Morgan has been one of my favorite spots in the city for barbecue for years. The cozy and rustic decor creates the perfect summer grilling feel even in the winter. In the warmer months, the large windows are open, providing great views for people watching. So when I heard they were back after closing during COVID, I couldn't wait to try the new menu.
The restaurant offers lots of different meat options and an extensive beer and bourbon menu. Meat options include pulled pork, smoked sausage, turkey, and brisket. On my first visit back, the waiter recommended the loaded fries with nacho cheese, mac and cheese, and a choice of meat. I decided on the pork and it was one of the best dishes I've had at Smoke and Barrel. Be sure to order this if you stop by!
The meat platers have also been elevated by the new chef. In addition to meat and a side option, you also get cornbread, onions, and pickles. You can order meats as a platter, on a sandwich, or as a sample platter that serves 3-4 people.
Smoke and Barrel is open for dinner every night and offers a late-night menu after 9 pm on Friday and Saturday. Vegan options are also available.
