My quest for finding the best South Indian (Tamil) food, took me 300kms south, to Seattle. But it only ended one day when I accidentally walked into this place in ‘Indian street’ of Vancouver.
I always go to Fraser Street (Indian Street) to get Indian spices and Indian groceries. I have been going there for a few years now. I had never seen this tiny place. I’m glad that one day I did.
I went into the restaurant, and familiar Indian songs were playing inside (a good sign). I asked the waiter which food was authentic there, he said “everything brother”. I thought “yeah, right”.
I ordered some parota (layered bread). It was really good! As good as the one you’d get it in India. Ever since, I have been going to this place whenever I want to get some good South Indian food.
The food in the picture is lunch thali and it is available only during lunchtime.
Dosas are very good here. Probably the best I have had in Vancouver. If you don’t know what dosa is, it is a thin Indian pancake. Try some authentic South Indian restaurant while you are in Vancouver!
