I agree, Granville Island is a very touristy place in Vancouver. But during summer or a non-rainy day in winter, a walk along the sea wall and a small visit to the market can be a relaxing thing to do.
I live very close to the market. I come here mostly to get veggies, some good meat and sweet treats. Ah, that rhymes!Â
During summer, the island becomes very artsy, with buskers and music all over the place. Winter is still a good time -- less busy and you have the market to yourself, mostly.
Tourist or local, the market is a good place to chill and buy some fresh produce and of course, the treats.
After you visit the market, Granville Island Brewery is close by, if you want to drink some fresh beer and take home some more for later.
Tip - Please don't come to the market hungry. You will end up eating lots of treats!
