You’ll find most of the “cool” cafes and bars in the centre of Zagreb. Pločnik is one of the exceptions. It’s situated in one of the “normal” neighbourhoods but is definitely worth a trip from anywhere in town.
Pločnik is a cafe bar by day, club by night. There’s a record store on the first floor, a bar on the ground floor and a club in the basement. You’ll find vinyl records, great events (concerts, comedy sets, pub quiz, poetry reading…) as well as at least sixty different types of beer there.
Whenever my husband takes our dog for a walk and stays out for an unusually long amount of time, I know he’s not actually walking the dog. I know where to find him. To get at least some use out of his long “walks”, I asked him to basically write this article for me. This is how he, as the truest fan, described Pločnik: “I love Pločnik. I get to sit outside, drink Nova Runda, eat free peanuts and watch terrible Croatian drivers drive aggressively and stupidly on the corner of Slovenska and Međimurska. What better entertainment? The staff are great, have exciting tattoos and did I mention the free peanuts? Awesome place.”
Quality beer, friendly waiters, cool tattoos, bad Croatian driver spotting, free peanuts. That pretty much sums it up. Take a walk to Pločnik – there’s a lot to discover in Zagreb outside the city centre!
