As you see in the picture, first we try and then we write!

Some of you might already know the famous “Cretan food” with its special ingredients, like olive oil and wine. Some of you may also know that Crete is the biggest island in Greece, with famous sightseeing spots like Knossos and Phaistos. But if you have no idea about any of this please don’t worry.

All you have to do is to visit Kritiko Steki, a very simple restaurant located close to Petralona train station, and try the famous food from this island.

Everything you will try is so delicious! Its specialities for vegetarians are “Sfakianiki pita”, which is a pie made in the village of Sfakia village with cheese and honey, “chortopita” and of course its tastet “tzatziki”. For meat lovers, try its speciality   “snails with red sauce and onions” and do not miss trying “frygadeli “(by far my favorite!) and the “sausage with vinegar”.

Of course you should order some cold raki – the national drink of Crete!

All in all, it’s a family restaurant that’s been operating since 1982. The owners are from the village of “Myrtia Pediados” where my mother comes from and the museum of famous writer Nikos Kazantzakis is located there.
