Picture this: you're in Beirut, wondering where to go for an afternoon coffee or drink. Mar Mikhael's main street is crowded, and you're looking for somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city. Enter: Fat Cat Society.
Nestled in the cozy neighborhood of Geitawi, this newly opened pub will soon become your go-to for a chill afternoon or night. Owned by friends, the location of Fat Cat Society is perfect if you want to stay around Mar Mikhael but avoid the excessive traffic or noise. On weekends, they have guest DJs to keep the vibes vibrant and fun. On their menu, you can find known and special cocktails as well as some food items — although I haven't tried the food yet. The sign outside invites you for breakfast in the mornings too.
While the space is a little tight inside, and there are only a couple of benches outside, the cozy atmosphere makes it easier to get in conversation with the friends and the friends of friends of the people running the place, turning your whole experience into one of community. Or as they call it, a society.
If, like me, you're a cat lover and are wondering about the 'fat cat' in question, there's not a single cat here, but some neighborhood cats that always hang out around the space. It's also pet-friendly, so keep it in mind next time you're walking your furry friend.
