From Montreal to Milan: Carmen’s Adventures as a Spotter and Photographer

At Spotted by Locals, we are incredibly proud of the diverse and talented group of Spotters that we have the privilege of working with. Today, we’re shining the spotlight on one of our very own, Carmen, a Canadian native who now calls Milan her home. Carmen’s passion for travel, photography, and exploring the world has led her on an incredible journey, and we’re excited for her to share her story with you. Join us as we get to know Carmen, learn about her experiences, and discover how she’s making the most of her adventures both abroad and in her own city. So, without further ado, let’s dive into the world of Carmen, our Milan-based Spotter!

My name is Carmen, and I am a Canadian from Montreal, now based in Milan, Italy. I have always loved travelling and photography, so applying to join the Spotted by Locals team was a no-brainer!

I moved to Italy about ten years ago to complete my Master’s degree. While I was officially moving for school, my goal was to explore Europe and travel. Growing up in Canada, the idea of “low-cost” flights and European country hopping sounded idyllic to my 19-year-old self.

Camera in hand, I quickly expanded my travel horizons to countries outside of Europe. When I go on a trip, I have this habit of creating a travel diary with my research, notes, tips, and recommendations that complement the photography I share online.

Nothing makes me happier than friends or strangers who reach out to ask for travel tips or want to buy one of my photography prints. Photography gives you the freedom and ability to travel with your mind.

Being a Spotter for the city of Milan made me look at the city where I live with different eyes. It made me become a traveller in my own city and gave me the desire and need to explore the unknown at home without necessarily having to hop on a plane or train.
