Meeting our Spotters in amazing Tel Aviv

The port of Tel Aviv - and chilling locals on Friday

The port of Tel Aviv – and chilling locals on Friday

Last week, we spent 4 days in Tel Aviv to check out as many of our locals’ spots and – of course – meet the people who created this great blog / app. We know now what we already suspected: it’s very very good!

It was great meeting our Spotters at HaBar Kayma – lots of laughs, disagreements and political discussions fueled by lemonade, beer and Mexican food. We got to know our Spotters a lot better, and learned much about the history and everyday life of people in Tel Aviv.

The weather was absolutely great, so we spent all days and evenings outside. One of our favorite neighborhoods was the trendy but still trashy enough Florentin, where we did a little street art hunt guided by Spotter Idan’s tips in the app.

There’s always work to be done at the moving Spotted by Locals HQ, but it’s so much better if you can do it outside! Tel Aviv has free wifi almost everywhere – we could even work on the beach (where I’m writing this post)!

Of course, we sampled lots of amazing dishes in the culinary paradise Tel Aviv is. We had falafel at HaKosem, which was so good we broke our own “never eat twice at a spot” rule. We had hummus at the very local Abu Hassan in Jaffa – easily the best hummus we’ve had anywhere in the world. We tried Malabia at HaMalabia – a trendy place serving this delicious Middle Eastern Malabi dessert. And on Saturday, we had the typical Sabbat dish Jachnun (and free arak shots) at Jachnun Buba (where several people asked us how we found this spot). And we had Knaffe at Knaffe Noga – a “sweet piece of heaven” according to local Sheila, and we agree!

We realize almost every trip we do that our concept, and especially how our locals execute it, is awesome: with the app in hand you can just walk around without any plan, and check out the most happening local spots around you. You don’t have to worry the spots are recommended by people who have a commercial interest in the spot, if they’re out of date, touristy or have a bad price / quality ratio…

Do you live in Tel Aviv, and want to share your love for your city? We want to expand our team of 5 Spotters to 6! Please check out this page for more information, and we hope to meet you next time we’re in Tel Aviv! We’d love to go back already…
