Together with WHL Group, we are founding members of the Local Travel Movement – an website uniting people and organisations with a passion for Local Travel and commitment to Local Travel values.
We’re going strong! In the last few months, almost 90 organizations have signed up who are all involved with Local Travel: guidebook publishers such as ourselves, tour guides, blogs and “voluntourism” organizations.
So far, 62 blog articles about Local Travel subjects have been published. A few that I really enjoyed:
- Is local interaction essential for Local Travel? – by John Nicholls
Interesting quote “…Interacting with locals beyond asking for directions and conversing at train stations is not an essential element of [most people’s] holidays“ - The travel industry’s dilemma – by Peter Stevenson
How can we bridge the gap between independent an organized group travel? - How to make your vacations more meaningful? By Shadia Garrison
This article was also published on the Huffington Post! - Are Couchsurfing networks legitimate local travel? By Ethan Gelber
An article that sparked a lot of discussion (22 comments!) about the safety of Local Accomodation networks
A few weeks ago, we added a forum functionality. Some interesting discussions are in progress already.
