We just departed the sunny city of Vienna, our 9th city on our 26 city Europe Interrail trip, and had a great time as always!
The main reason for visiting a city for us is always meeting our Spotters. We already knew David, Julia, Linda & Sabrina quite well, as they joined our Spotters weekend in 2012 and/or 2014. Now we also met Andreas & Gerald. It’s such a nice team of Spotters – we had a lot of fun in our Grüner Veltliner and sun fueled picknick at Burggarten.
As we know the city of Vienna quite well, we chose to explore a neighborhood a little bit out of the city center: the 10th district. Our main target was Ankerbrot-fabrik – an old bread factory turned into a home for art galleries.
We were lucky that there was a design market going on – with lots of cool Vienna designers exhibiting / selling, and Viennese hipsters checking out the wares (thanks for the recommendation Julia!)
Our favorite gallery in the Ankerbrot-fabrik was Ostlicht – there’s currently a very cool exhibition by Chinese photographer Ren Hang that we definitely recommend. Totally unexpectedly we ran into our Spotter Andreas – who recommended this spot – at Ostlicht!
Of course we could not resist the beers & food that Vienna has to offer…
The schitzel & beer we had for lunch in Wieden Bräu’s lovely backyard was really good.
Kolar is a place we visited quite a few times before, and it’s always surprising to see that there’s always only locals having a beer here. It’s located in a small alley really close to the main tourist attractions. For us that’s what makes Spotted by Locals such a cool city guide – we love our own concept :).
Vienna & Spotters: thank you so much. Next stop: Bratislava!
