On a lovely spring morning, I decide to enjoy my breakfast at the Boston Public Garden. I pour the coffee I made at home into my thermos, grab my picnic blanket, and set off for the park. Naturally, my coffee wouldn’t be complete without some freshly baked treats from Bakey. Choosing between their irresistible babkas, burekas, cheese sticks, and cookies is always a challenge!
Babka, a cherished staple of Central and Eastern European cuisine, traces its roots to Poland and Russia. This versatile delight can be described as a cross between bread, cake, and dessert. Traditionally, it’s made by rolling out layers of cocoa or cinnamon dough, often enriched with fillings like walnuts, cinnamon, and vanilla.
At Bakey, freshness is a top priority for founders Uri Scheft and Or Ohana. Their ovens run continuously, ensuring that warm, freshly baked goods are always available. Alongside their chocolate, almond, pistachio, and raspberry babkas, they offer an incredible selection of burekas. If it’s your first time visiting, I highly recommend trying my personal favorites: the spinach and cheese burekas and the chocolate babka—you won’t be disappointed!
If you find yourself in Boston on a beautiful spring or summer day, grab a box of Bakey’s mouthwatering pastries before heading to the Public Garden for a stroll. Alternatively, you can relax in their spacious café or take some treats back to your hotel—because trust me, one taste won’t be enough!
