Metrorock is my local climbing gym. Just a few miles from my apartment, I stop here after work to boulder with my friends at least once a week. If you’re visiting Boston and looking for a place to climb that has a good mix of top rope, lead climbing, and bouldering without being crowded, I recommend checking out Metrorock.
What I like about Metrorock is it’s size. It isn’t so small that you get border after two hours, but it isn’t huge and crowded like so many of the other gyms around Boston. I guess because of its location, a little tucked out of the way, people don’t know it is there. Whatever the case, I like my climbing gyms a little less busy, so Metrorock works for me.
They’ve got a pretty serious bouldering setup, and even host competitions from time to time. I’m still fairly new to the sport, just topped my first V2 recently, but I enjoy watching the more experienced people contort their bodies into pretzels to top out the higher grades.
They’ve also got Narnia in the back, a land of high walls for top roping and lead climbing. Not perhaps as tall as some other gyms in the area, there is still enough going on for you to get a real workout in.
