Bullet Holes from '56 Budapest

The living trace of history

Zoltán from Budapest

About me My name is Zoltan (it's a very old and traditional Hungarian name ;) ). I have studied philosophy. Now I work in the marketing business for Hungarian agriculture and study law. In my free time I take photos. I love contrasts in life - harmony is a bit boring for me. I feel itchy when everything is beautiful and pain when I see kitsch and cliche. But I love ...
"In Budapest's District 8, the not-so-fancy part of the city, you can still find "Bullet holes from '56" in the walls. It's history that's living with us..."

On October 23rd 1956, there was a big revolution in Hungary, with fights taking place in the streets of Budapest (but not only).

You can read about it on Wikipedia.

The memory of it is a part of us and Budapest. I think every Hungarian has at least one relative who fought in 1956 or suffered from its consequences.

In the not-so-fancy parts of Budapest, we can still find bullet holes. Real holes. They are not just a monument, they are a real sign of use of weapons.

(You can find the not-as-real signs on the building of Agricultural Ministry in front of the Parliament.)

In District 8, we can find the real memories living with us.

Some of them are certified, like this spot on the corner of Vajdahunyad and Nap street.

When I pass by here, I stand and contemplate about all this for a few minutes...

In my free time I take photos. I love contrasts in life - harmony is a bit boring for me. I feel itchy when everything is beautiful and pain when I see kitsch and cliche. But I love personal stories and fantasies and opportunities. I really love my city. I love to eat fine foods and chat with a glass of beer or wine. Why Budapest Budapest is a bit ...
