Deák Ferenc Tér Metro Station 3 Budapest

Poems on the wall

"The "Deák Ferenc Tér Metro Station 3" in Budapest has poems on its walls by Portuguese and Hungarian poets. They're translated between the languages."

In the station ’Deák tér’ of subway line 3 you can read poems on the wall.

The poems by Hungarian poets are written in Portuguese and the Portuguese poems are written in Hungarian. The tiles are the works of Portuguese painter Joao Vieira.

I have to admit, though, that it was a challenging spot: looking for the poems took me a lot of time and not with much success at first, since a number of tiles were badly laid out in some places. It was still a good game though, and a very interesting work of art with beautiful poems.

In general it's a free thing, but you have to have a ticket for the subway to come here :(.

The Hungarian poems in Portuguese:

1. Sándor Petőfi: Szabadság, szerelem (Liberdade, amor)

2. Sándor Petőfi: A nép nevében (Em nome do povo)

3. Endre Ady: Elillant évek szőlőhegyén (Na vinha dos anos fanados)

4. Sándor Petőfi: Az álom (O sonho)

5. Attila József: A dunánál (No Danúbio)

And the Portuguese poems in Hungarian:

1. Fernando Pessoa: Opiário (Opiárium)

2. Luís de Camoes: Que me Quereis, perpétuas saudades? (Mit akartok, örök vágyakozások?)

3. Cesário Verde: Noite Fechada (Bezárt éj)

4. Fernando Pessoa: Ela canta, pobre ceifeira (Ő, az az aratómunkásnő énekel)

5. Luís de Camoes: Erros meus, má fortuna, amor ardente (Hibáim, balsors, lobogó szerelmem)

ATTENTION: SUBWAY3 IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

You can see the details here.

(You can travel with subway 3 just on weekdays before 20:30 from this station. The subway doesn't work between Újpest-Központ and Lehel tér; you use the buses instead there)
