If you love model trains, this place is a must-see! Located near Keleti railway station, it immerses you in the fun world of trains and railways.
The fun part? Your drinks are brought by real model trains! The restaurant is in a cellar with small rails along the walls next to the tables. Each table is a sort of a 'train station' where 'waiter' trains stop by to bring beverages and pick up empty glasses and bottles. Real-looking miniatures of various landscapes and places in Hungary and beyond dilute the myriad of tables. Some of them can be set in motion with a push of a button!
This is not a high-end restaurant, but the food is tasty, and the portions are hearty. Most of the food is typical Hungarian dishes served during traditional Sunday lunches. It is not by chance the name includes the word 'Lakoma' that means 'feast' or 'banquet'. They also have a wide variety of drinks including local Hungarian craft beers that I have not seen anywhere else.
This place is family-friendly and fun for both kids and adults! I enjoyed the experience, especially once when there was a big local family there that invited a live band and they were playing live music the whole evening.
