The address 4812 N. Broadway in Uptown has long been occupied by a small business. Prior to Provisions taking the keys a record and bookshop Shake, Rattle and Read operated for 50 years. Provisions moved in not long after Shake, Rattle and Read closed and they pay homage to the their predecessor with a beautiful painting behind the register. So onto what Provisions has brought to the neighborhood: Provisions is a modern general store. They stock wine, spirits, Chicago centric gifts, season needs, cheese, candy and snacks. Their wine selection is consistently updated and the staff can point you to great recommendations.
The store is delightful to browse and I would recommend taking some garlic basil pasta and a bottle of wine home. This is a helpful spot to visit before attending a house party so you can grab cheese and fresh bread for your hosts. Provisions regularly has wine and spirits tasting on Tuesday and Thursday from 5 pm-8 pm; for more information check out their Facebook page under events.
