The first time I looked at the 485° menu I was amazed by the innovative combinations of toppings of the pizzas. Taking the first bite, I realized they were also high quality.
While many pizza places take everything from cans and you don't even know if the cheese is made out of milk, it's different with 485°: Provolone cheese, smoked mozzarella, pears, marinated dates and goat salami are only some of the options. €7 - €14 for a pizza is absolutely worth it. They also offer interesting alternatives for vegetarians including Guacamole, lentils and pumpkin.
As the "Verace Pizza Napoletana" (Real Pizza from Naples) demands, the pizzas are made in a big oven at 485° and it takes only 60 seconds to give the dough its dark crust and melt the cheeses. You can see the oven behind the bar right when you enter.
The interior with its wooden tables and benches is rather simple. That is why the high class selection of wines with prices reaching up to €650 per bottle is a bit surprising. But the restaurant got a Gault Millau mention for their wine menu!
In summer, you can take the pizza to the nearby park behind the university and sit down on the lawn to eat.
485° now also has a second restaurant at Bonner Straße in the south of Cologne.
