Like most major cities Dublin is overrun with boring high street sandwich shops. But over the past few years this has changed dramatically and no finer example is Doughboys. This place really is a sandwich bar with a difference.
Having only opened in 2014 it has everything it needs to stand out in a crowded market. It's less than 1 minute walk from the tram stop which takes me to my parents place and every time I make the trip I make sure to call in first for a quick coffee. What made me come back was the vibe and a menu offering sandwiches such as 'The Roots' and 'California Chicken". The Doughboys themselves are a friendly bunch and if you're not absolutely starving they are more than happy to leave of the bread and serve the ingredients of any sandwich in a bowl. They do great breakfasts and coffees too and offer plenty of gluten free and vegan options.
But the real treats here if I'm honest are for the carnivores amongst us. On Thursdays and Fridays only they serve porchetta, a herb infused roast pork with salsa verde and garlic. But if you do pay a visit to get your hands on this then get there early as it sells out pretty quick. But if this does happen don't worry as they also do a mean meatball roll.
Ever since I discovered Doughboys I now try to work my lunch around the tram timetable where possible, it's that good. Enjoy!
