I discovered this place after an early appointment where I’d run out of the house without breakfast. Feeling peckish on the way home, I unexpectedly passed by a window display chockful of cakes, croissants and artisan breads. I had discovered La Barantine Boulange, a wonderful French bakery!
If the window display full of French fancies isn’t enough to entice you, then the smell of freshly baked bread and warm buttery croissants makes it nigh on impossible to walk past. La Barantine aims to create an authentic French experience and it really does feel like you’ve hopped across the channel when you walk through the door. You can even practice your French with the friendly staff!
Open from 7am every day, La Barantine is the perfect place to go for an on-the-go early breakfast and coffee, especially handy for those frantic Fringe Festival days when you want to cram in as many shows as possible. Be sure to get there early to grab some freshly baked goods straight out the oven!
La Barantine also has several cafés spread throughout the city from Grassmarket to Stockbridge where they serve their pastries as well as savoury dishes.
