One of the newer additions to Edinburgh’s shopping and community scene, Tolbooth market is a daily market located right in the heart of the city’s Old Town. The venture was originally set up as an experimental community arts and work project, however, it’s now one of the most popular indie markets in the capital.

The aim of the start-up was to provide locals and tourists with a creative and sustainable space to promote work and gather. The renovated street vendor space is nestled amongst an old industrial space and is now home to food specialists, artists and musicians.

In the stone courtyard, you’ll find Scottish Afro Caribbean street food, haggis (both standard and vegan), Jamaican jerk and other tasty treats, all accompanied by a live piano player! In the surrounding converted garages, visitors can explore art pieces curated by IR11 (Interview Room Eleven), a local arts organisation championing the use of urban spaces. Those looking to sit down and relax can work their way up to the second floor where you’ll find a huge attic bar serving beers and soft drinks.
