Situated near Murrayfield Stadium on the outskirts of the city is a leafy area called Roseburn that intersects with the Water of Leith. Roseburn is home to the Roseburn Bar- a true slice of Edinburgh life. This 19th-century pub has played host to generations of local people and has as much character as the patrons that frequent it. It serves a great selection of real ales and whiskys and shows sports on the television but the main reason to go here is to soak up the atmosphere. It is a proper Edinburgh pub, friendly and full of larger than life characters. If you are not careful it can be very easy to find yourself involved in some epic drinking sessions with enthusiastic locals.
I like to arrive here early on a Friday evening and people-watch from one of the booths as people from all walks of life come together to enjoy the end of their working week. Being close to Murrayfield Rugby Ground and Tynecastle Football Stadium it can get very busy on match days so it is always worth checking the local sports fixtures before heading down.
