Juliana da Silva is a Brazilian singer who often performs at the Jazzkeller in Frankfurt. Her voice is fascinating and her concerts always are small journeys to Brazil, diving into the Brazilian feeling, mood, culture and emotions.
She performs in various constellations, sometimes simply with her guitar player, but very often with Jazz players from different countries and her "Amigos do Brasil" - in any case I have enjoyed excellent musicians and huge variety of her all superb repertoire. Sometimes surprise guests from the audience join in on stage and occasionally some the big Jazz performers play a few tunes with Juliana after their shows at the Alte Oper near by.
Don't expect the "Girl from Ipanema" or sing-along hits; her songs are mostly by Brazilian composers, some famous in her country, some less known, but all wonderful.
The atmosphere in Jazzkeller is unique, the place, downstairs in an old cellar, is tiny and you shift chairs and move together with other Jazz-Fans around the small tables and stools.
I love the late concerts after a long day into the night, and when Juliana takes off her shoes for her barefoot on-stage performance, eyes closed to concentrate on the music and the words (don't worry if you don't understand a single word of Portuguese), I guarantee, she'll take you to a passage to Brazil. I am already looking forward to my next "trip"!
Boa viagem!
