Nobody would blame you for walking straight past Zebrabeach, because it’s actually in a little courtyard surrounded by apartment buildings, so you would never know it was there. Zebrabeach is definitely a beach, but so far I haven’t spotted any zebras… it just happens to be on Zebrastraat. It’s a summer-only outdoor bar that isn’t just another terrace because it also has a large central paddling pool to splash about in. If you find out what the big nail in the middle is for, let me know! I’ve never quite worked that out…
The beach part is mainly sand and deckchairs, but there are also little striped beach hut facades around the edge for the bar, ice cream, and snack stands. Before you reach for your bucket and spade, I recommend looking at the website because they have a live webcam stream so you can see how busy it is. It’s also ok to bring snacks in from outside if you want to have a little picnic.
Depending on the year, Zebrabeach also shows either movies or big sporting events (like the FIFA World Cup) on its huge outdoor screen. Even if I’ve already seen the movie, I’m happy to watch it again on a warm summer’s evening with my feet in the sand.
