Not all of London's theatre happens in the West End. In fact, some of the most challenging plays are happening outside of Zone 1. The Almeida Theatre is just one of many smaller theatres dotted outside central London that are pushing the boundaries of theatre. Recent shows from the Almeida have even transferred to the West End, including Charles III and the award-winning Chimerica.
Aside from the innovative shows (and reasonable ticket prices by West End standards), the Almeida just makes for a great evening out. It's based in Islington - not far from many popular restaurants like Ottolenghi and The Breakfast Club. The theatre space is fairly compact, so even the bargain seats offer great views of the stage (you won't have to crane your neck like a flamingo - I promise!)
As a charity, the theatre also does a lot of education and community outreach. So not only will you be supporting theatre by buying a ticket, you'll be making a difference in the local community too!
