In a city as busy as London, it’s often hard to find a spot that excels on all fronts: flavor profile, ambiance, good service and affordable pricing. Bancone truly does exactly that: it surpasses expectations.
With its Italian name translating to “counter”, this spot has an open-style kitchen so you can see the chefs preparing your pasta, and where you can also find seating to enjoy a closer view of the show.
It is the proud owner of a Michelin Bib Gourmand since 2019. The concept behind this award is simple: good quality food at a moderate price.
Bancone focuses on signature cocktails, antipasti to get you started, a variety of pasta dishes and a few choices for dessert.
The pasta is freshly handmade every day, and each dish pairs perfectly with their negronis (the white being my favorite). Although the menu is not extensively long, your taste buds will embark on a wild ride. We shared a total of 5 pasta dishes and the fried artichoke entrée. Everything was divine. Our favorites were the anchovy cream and jalapeño mafalde and the walnut butter with egg yolk confit. The spicy nduja ragù and the carbonara were fighting for third place. The gnocchi was also very tasty.
Make sure to order a side of bread as you will need it to wipe every plate clean.
Come many, come hungry.
And remember ... life’s too short to die on an empty stomach — so make it count!
