Sloane Square is an area of town that I generally avoid: it's expensive, clubby, and crowded. I will make an exception for the wonderful events at Cadogan Hall, the home to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. While the majority of their concerts are classical, there are other events such as gospel, the occasional BBC prom or a youth event.
Unlike many concert venues in London, the seats are very comfortable and prices are often surprisingly reasonable. The crowd are also an eclectic mix: everything from music students to fur-clad music-loving grandees, which reflects the eclectic programming: a sample week has a 100-person choir, a Joni Mitchell tribute, and a blues band!
Truly a venue for music lovers since 1907, which seats up to 950 people but still manages to feel like your favourite local concert hall. If you do take in an evening concert, there are a number of hidden gems on the nearby Pavilion Road for pre- or post-concert fare, including some of the best produce in London at Natoora.
