While outdoor lidos like London Fields (see entry on London Fields Lido) are gems, wild swimming seemed like you needed to get far out of town to enjoy.
I then discovered Eden Dock, a project co-developed with the Eden Project in Cornwall. In the middle of Canary Wharf, there is an installation of nature and water, with topiary, boardwalks, seating and a swimming spot! You can walk through on raised boardwalks and feel you have escaped it all, just for a moment-until you raise your head and see the Docklands Light Railway.
It's possible (with prior registration at actio.nowca.org) to book a swimming slot from Wednesday to Saturday with hours that change as days get longer or shorter.
For those not so keen on direct water contact, kayaking and other water sports are available, or just take a fully dressed stroll in this little oasis.
P.S. As a post-nature treat, check out the addictive Chai at Chai Guys in Canada Square shops, served with a big smile, even if or maybe because seaweed is clinging to your hair.
