"Konjiki" refers to the color gold in Japanese. It's a family-run business, new to the Kensington scene in West London.
Although their entrance is inviting, the narrow staircase to get down to the restaurant might be a bit tricky to navigate. But once you're down there ... the flavours will surely make up for it!
We ordered the Red Dragon sushi roll to start, alongside the Prawn Gyoza. The food tastes so fresh and the gyozas were probably the best I've had in London. Our mains also managed to hit the spot. As one of the few places that serves Sukiyaki, we knew we needed to order it. The broth was rich and aromatic, and the beef was very tender. The mushrooms added texture and umami and brought the meal together. We also tried the Chicken Katsu and the 'golden' coating was perfectly crispy.
The mains we got came with a side of seaweed salad, miso soup and other condiments. A very good value for the price. This place is really worth a visit, especially on a cold night in London.
Make sure to check their website for events, as they occasionally have a Jazz musician and some sushi deals.
As always, remember… life is too short to die on an empty stomach – so make it count!
