Right in the middle of Greenwich, next to the busy Greenwich Market, the old Royal Naval College site is home to the University of Greenwich Maritime Campus and is a shooting location for many films and series, such as Thor: The Dark World and Bridgerton. The site also contains a chapel which is free to visit (the location for the University’s graduation ceremonies (including mine)), the Painted Hall which features 3,700 square meters of paintings on its walls and ceilings, and a view of the hill with the observatory in Greenwich Park in one direction and a view of Canary Wharf across the river in the other.
However, my favourite (and free) thing to do is to simply walk between the buildings on the campus, taking in all the sights, making sure to take a seat by the music college (Trinity Laban – you should be able to find this by following the sounds of students playing piano, singing or bands playing) next to the river and listen while watching the water. The campus stays open until late, and I spent many winter evenings braving the cold with a hot chocolate in hand, walking around the grounds, basking in the peaceful atmosphere and taking in the beautiful sights.
