When you enter Greenwich Park from Greenwich town centre, you will see a large hill with an observatory on top. This hill provides a beautiful view of the University of Greenwich campus, Canary Wharf and much more of London. However, it can be packed with tourists and large groups of young students visiting.
Just to the left of the observatory hill, just up Lovers Walk and hidden in the treeline is historic One Tree Hill, named after the single tree which stands in the middle. This spot provides an alternative viewing place, complete with seating. While the spot is also frequented by people (mostly dog walkers), I have at times had the pleasure of sitting on the bench, taking in the view, with no one else around.
When you’re up the hill facing Greenwich, if you turn to your left, you should be able to see the Royal Observatory and the alternative crowded viewpoint through the trees!
I was going to wait until a sunny day to take the photos for this post, but I like the view and the experience of visiting just as much on a more cloudy day, of which we get many!
