Featuring a serious collection of vintage clothing and a full calendar of live music events held in an intimate setting, Paper Dress Vintage is one of Hackney’s jewel concept stores. Located just across from Hackney Central Station, the two-floor venue turns from being a vintage shop by day into a bustling music venue at night, hosting live gigs on weekdays and club nights on Fridays and Saturdays running till 2.30 - 3am.
But Paper Dress Vintage’s concept does not stop at this unique fusion of fashion with music. Its brand identity has been recently expanded to include beer culture through a collaboration with SON Estrella Galicia, a project by Spanish craft brewery, which creates unique events that put a fresh spin on the traditional concert experience. Most of the weekend Club Nights are Free Entry, while tickets for the gigs start from £5 depending on the lineup.
Tucked behind racks of clothing spanning from the Victorian era to the 1990s stands a bar serving hot drinks in the morning before switching to spirits and a selection of craft beers sourced from local breweries. Arrive in the afternoon, and you will likely listen to the bands rehearsing or doing their sound checks as you browse through the eclectic collection of garments. The beer garden at the back offers a spot to get some fresh air in between the gigs, while I particularly love the black-and-white checkered flooring, which perfectly complements the store’s retro aesthetic.
