There are several city farms in London, including Hackney City Farm and Vauxhall City Farm. They typically combine education and exposure to high-quality farming and livestock methods with community facilities such as cafes or farmers' markets. Stepney City Farm is a 4.5 acre working farm, free to visit.
Stepney Farmers Market is at the City Farm on Saturdays, with a petting zoo and a fantastic cafe using organic produce from local growers, you can easily make a day of it.
The market is small but has most of what you will need: several vegetable stalls, bread and cake, eggs, poultry and meat, often homemade jams or chutneys or spicy sauces depending on the time of year. The market cafe puts these ingredients to good use, with beautiful soups, brunch dishes, and great coffee. You can sit in the leafy garden area and have a mini-vacation and go thank the goats for their cheese afterwards.
