This quirky Bermondsey based restaurant is perfect if you're looking for somewhere interesting that isn't at all uncomfortably obscure...serving mainly British comfort food with a modern twist such as the Toad in the Hole with mushroom ketchup and Oxtail spring rolls, you'll have a tough time choosing from the menu. Generally speaking whenever I visit I share a few plates with my partner. The only dish I refuse to share is the scotch egg, served warm with the perfect runny yolk center, this quintessentially British snack has, in my eyes, never been so perfectly executed.
You'll never be stumped for conversation here as you're prompted into nostalgia by the gymnasium props and little details put in to the décor. Conversation can swerve comfortably to that of school memories when you notice the hobby horse and rope ladders. Each toilet cubicle is themed around a different school subject giving you ample conversation topics. The service is great and food interesting without being obscure, every time I go back I notice something different, this is a fantastically fun restaurant on one of Londons' most under-visited roads. Well worth checking out!
