Tao Comedy Studio is an underground LA icon. A Stand-Up Comedy establishment for beginning — veteran Stand-Up Comedians. A place to hear jokes "that aren't rapey". The Comedian/Owner Bobbie Oliver is hilarious and a true Veteran in Stand-Up Comedy. You can watch her specials online. Her work has been featured on ABC and NPR, and she's the Author & Teacher of: The Tao of Comedy: Embrace the Pause.
My stand-up journey begins at Tao. There are shows, mics, and classes you can all see on their website. It's a cozy creative space that encourages comics to dig deeper into their voice with Open Mics almost every night. There are 3 showrooms — two indoor and one outside patio that's 420 friendly. I just did a Weed Girls show here on 420 and it was a blast!
Bobbie teaches classes with a unique approach to stand-up comedy: Embrace the Pause. Slow down. Breathe. She teaches that our best jokes, observations, and performances come from the pause. By embracing a Tao approach to comedy, we create what we're meant to create. She teaches classes and private lessons (in-person and online), and hosts open mics and shows every week. Tao is a cool space to enjoy comedy or do a bit yourself!
