As a Location Scout, I’m always looking for adventures that bring out the best in my city: LA. I’m currently making what I call, “The Greatest Map of Hollywood” and in the process of verifying locations on Google Maps, I spotted a place called the Garden of Oz. With a name like that, I had to follow the prompting and investigate.
The navigation directed the drive up Gower Street (one of the best views of the Hollywood sign). Quickly, I realized, this is the most enchanted part of Hollywood. There’s a castle like “Welcome to Hollywoodland” pillar that marks the threshold into Hollywood History. This is the neighborhood of the Golden Era stars. In this neighborhood, you’ll find castles, bungalows, and cafes to eat!
The Garden of Oz is in this Hollywoodland/Beachwood neighborhood. It’s located on private property and it’s easy to miss! I had to flip a U-turn because it’s nestled in a thicket of plants. It’s a mosaic masterpiece of art, eclectic objects, and inspiring quotes. My favorite was Claude Monet’s “I paint so I can buy plants.” “Sit on your own throne” and “look with your heart and not your camera”. *Please forgive me for taking a picture. It’s a bright and creative place that asks one to pause, look in from the outside, and smile. I spent 10 minutes looking at the garden, and the rest of my time absorbing the incredible history and architecture of the neighborhood.
