There’s a little area along Vermont Ave, in the neighborhood of Los Feliz, littered with bars, restaurants, cafes, and even an occasional New York-style building, that will make you feel like you made a wrong turn and somehow wound up in the heart of Brooklyn. But no, it’s just the enhanced West Coast version. Right at the center of this area, you will find Figaro Bistrot (up until recently known simply as Café Figaro). Surrounded by tree crowns that line up all the way up the streets and just opposite of the aforementioned Brooklyn building, this place is 100% certified Parisian, but in the heart of LA.
The interior looks intentionally run-down, oozing character and making you feel like you’ve travelled back to Paris in the '30s. It’s usually not busy except of course Saturday and Sunday for brunch – but even then, the wait is not a deal breaker. I tend to go for the Omelette Figaro on breakfast or brunch and, if I’m stopping by in the afternoon, I choose tea over coffee – I’m not a tea drinker at all, but their teas are extraordinary and served in big teapots that are perfect for sharing.
Figaro Bistrot is the real deal for those seeking the quintessential Café and a magical spot that will allow you for a quick trip to Paris, while you visit Los Angeles.
