Today, the Cinémathèque offers a large range of movies, from classic to contemporary, while specializing in "Film noir", movies from the 1930s and '40s, independent American movies and movies in relation with Luxembourg, which are screened in their original language (with French subtitles). I love it because I get to know movies that I would never watch otherwise, but even more because of its old-fashioned cinema atmosphere, with its plush red velvet seats, walls decorated with old film posters and pictures of stars.
Every Sunday, Cinema Paradiso (Cinémathèque for Children) projects movies for children. I love going there with my 4-year-old son and afterwards having lunch in the city and continue talking about the movie we watched together.
In summer, they organize open-air screenings in front of the Grand-Ducal palace, or in the nice cozy courtyard of Theatre des Capucins (it's magical!) and every year, the Cinémathèque participates in the Luxembourg City Film Festival.
Enjoy!
