Although now Moscow has a lot of ‘around the world in 360 degrees’ type food markets, there are still those I prefer more than others. One of them is Central Market (‘Tsentralny’ in Russian), located not far away from Tsvetnoy Central Market.
In fact, trade was conducted here since olden times. Back in 1961, a special building was constructed near Trubnaya Square, and Central Market became the main one in the whole country. But, in 1994 it was closed and abandoned for more than 20 years. Until investors gave it a new life, and in 2017 Central Market was revived.
Today it is one of the best places to have a bite of something while strolling along Moscow boulevards. There, apart from the farmer products that you can buy there, you can treat yourself to Greek, Vietnamese, Georgian, Korean, Chinese, Mexican delights, to name a few. Or just grab your coffee with an eclair which you can eat sitting on a bench on Rozhdestvensky Boulevard nearby. A perfect snack to recover while walking!
When it’s a New Year season, near Central Market you can buy some mulled wine to warm yourself. And at any time of the year, you will definitely see many people, sitting, chatting, and relaxing, as the market is located at the junction of many important streets of central Moscow.
