When my boyfriend and I were first looking to move to Astoria, our broker listed “proximity to Astoria Bier & Cheese” as a feature of the apartment we were considering. We chuckled at the gimmick. Little did we know we would spend countless birthdays, date nights, and lazy afternoons enjoying craft beer and artisan cheese pairings at Astoria Bier & Cheese!
Astoria Bier & Cheese specializes in craft beer and charcuteries. As a New Yorker, I love that they have many local breweries on tap, especially those located right in Queens and NYC. I always get a flight of four 4oz beers for $11 so that I can try a couple of the featured brews. If I’m feeling decadent, I love to add a cheese pairing, where the bartender creates a customized plate of 4 cheeses to compliment your beer selection. It’s ingenious: they anticipate how a sharp cheddar might bring out the sweetness of a stout, for example, or the creaminess of burrata could highlight the crisp effervescence of a pilsner. The constantly changing beer selection keeps it interesting so that you’re always in for a different experience.
Astoria Bier & Cheese also serves delicious sandwiches, snacks, and Bavarian-style pretzels. Their backyard patio is the perfect place to spend a warm afternoon, and my boyfriend loves to browse their shop, where he can find rare beers and fancy snacks.
Astoria Bier & Cheese has two locations in Astoria. Both the Broadway and Ditmars locations are accessible by taking the N or W subway.
